However, one parent, Nichols, was attempting to control the other parent by making false allegations of abuse against that parent. 

Nichols was also alienating the other parent by making threats and using the court system as a weapon against the father of her children.

The court acknowledged that the father did have some prior history of anger issues. But, Nichols used the legal system to alienate the father and control him when he didn’t do what she wanted or didn’t agree to her terms. She went so far as to claim that Coffman tried to strike her with his car during a custody exchange of the children.

Sadly, this is not the first case in which one party tries to manipulate the other party using the court system. Luckily, with good legal representation, the wronged party can receive a just outcome to their custody case. 

Our firm was able to prove Nichols’ poor behavior using mental health experts and other evidence. The father was able to gain custody of the kids, with Nichols receiving visitation. Shared custody would be possible if Nichols lived closer to the father.
